163-It is Almost Spring at the Farm

As the title of this episode suggests, we are starting to see warmer temperatures in East Central Illinois.

Those warmer temperatures allow us to begin the outdoor tasks like removing invasive plant species and burning up the cuttings.

We also have been able to check on the honeybees. We may have lost one colony over the winter, but the other two seem to be doing well. They have plenty of food stores to get them through until pollen and nectar start, but just in case, we added a little more in the form of winter patties.

The Mercantile will re-open on Friday, March 19, 2021 for the season. We will be then be open almost every Friday until Christmas. Keep watching our website, email and social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) for more details.

Two links were mentioned in the podcast.

First is our online gardening course: Gardening the Five Feline Farm Way. It is packed full of videos and information about each step we take here at the Farm to produce all our garden goodness. We are offering a low introductory price of only $19 for lifetime access. As we continue to add lessons, the price will go up.

Second is our Gert’s Garden 2 Go© bags for customers within our delivery area (15 miles from the farm). All of the details are available through the link below.

As usual, we are busy here at the farm.

Until next time,

Donna, Julia and the Felines

162-Filling Our Time by Filling Stock

The long cold days are about to come to an end and we are thankful.

We have also set Friday, March 19, 2021 as the season opening of the Mercantile.

Between those two things, we are working hard to fill our product stock now while we have the chance. As soon as the weather breaks, we have a lot of outside chores to do and we want to have full shelves when we open on the 19th.

Donna has been busy making balms, soaps and shampoo bars. She is creating a new line of botanical scents that are sure to please.

Julia has been in the kitchen testing heritage recipes to add to the menu plus will be stocking up on jam.

All of a sudden, we are not bored any more.

Mark your calendars for March 19. We can’t wait to see everyone.

Stay tuned to our social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) or subscribe to our email list for more details.

Until next time,

Donna, Julia and the Felines

P.S. Registration is still open for the low $19 introductory price for our gardening course.

161-Polar Vortex at the Farm

It is mid-February 2021 and the Farm is deep in the grip of a Polar Vortex. For us, that means temperatures hovering near 0º with windchills even lower. It is too cold to work outside even though we are chomping at the bit to begin gardening.

Even with the uncooperative weather, we are still able to complete some tasks that move us closer toward Spring and the season opening of the Mercantile.

In this episode, we talk about what we have accomplished and some upcoming next steps. This includes the delivery of the new potting shed this past week.

So even though we can’t be outside, we are making the best use of our time and looking forward to warmer weather.

Until next time,

Donna, Julia and the Felines

P.S. If you haven’t enrolled in our new gardening class yet, get it now before the price goes up. We are continuing to add new video and information. Just follow this link: Garden Class.

160-Course Launch, Gert’s Garden and a Kitten

Once again, it has been a busy week here at Five Feline Farm.

As promised, we launched the long awaited gardening course. It is loaded with videos, tip sheets, discussion forums and downloadable documents. We will add to this throughout the year, so by the time next January rolls around, there will be a full year of gardening content.

If you are interested in enrolling at the “class building” rate, you can do that here.

In this episode we also discuss our plan for Gert’s Garden 2 Go© bags for 2021. Our model will be similar to a CSA in that you will receive a weekly garden share, but different because our customers will not incur any risk. How’s that for a deal. Watch our social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) or make sure you are on our email list for more information. You do need to be within 15 miles of the Farm for delivery.

Last, but not least, we added a new feline member to the household. Ivory Petunia came to live with us from a shelter on Friday and has found her fur-ever home.

Keep coming back, it is going to get interesting.

Until next time,

Donna, Julia and the Felines
